Maybe it’s this unseasonably warm weather (60* in February?
Heavenly!) or just our usual wanderlust but we have been craving a trip
somewhere tropical.
If you’re too tied up to get away or simply don’t
have the cash to spare for a full-blown getaway, you can make your own little
abode into a tropical paradise for the weekend.
Here’s how:
Start with the setting. We suggest you gather tons of
pillows and blankets or hang a hammock in your living room. Stick with bright,
festive colors to really keep the energy high. Wicker and rattan are also good
for this theme. A stack of magazines, beach reads, or summery movies really set
the stage. Cocktail anyone?
Next, you’re gonna need the perfect outfit. Sure it’s nearly
freezing outside or cloudy with a chance of rain. That doesn’t mean you can’t
throw on a bathing suit. People it’s all about setting the mood; you’ve got to
really get into it to reap the benefits! Toss on a gauzy cover-up, paint your
nails in neon colors, and pull that hair back into a ponytail. Why not throw on
some over-the-top accessories too? It is
a vacation after all.
No vacation is complete without drinks! If you’re opposed to
drinking by your lonesome, we suggest making a this fun twist on lemonade:
Mix together lemonade mix + 2 oranges, thinly sliced+ 1 cup
of pineapple juice.
If you’re not opposed to a private afternoon happy hour, add
a little vodka and a splash of tequila to the mix. Stave off the hunger pains
with trail mix, tropical fruits, and crackers served in a woven basket. You’ll
be lulled away into the tropical atmosphere in no time!
We don’t know about you but we’re pretty excited to spend
our money on a bikini and those fabulous earrings instead of a plane ticket.
Aloha!
